Facial Scrub

I don't think if I mentioned this on the No Poo post, but it's so great, I wanted to share it.

I've started washing my face with a honey baking soda scrub, and I LOVE it. Before, when I got out of the shower, I would always have dry flaky skin on my cheeks and no amount of moisturizer would work. I also struggled with acne everywhere else on my face.

The recipe is about 1:1 with baking soda to honey. Maybe a little less baking soda. You can experiment with it. I've also thought of adding a drop of lavender essential oil into it. The honey smells so nice, and when I get out of the shower my face is soft and not flaky. That is a good thing.

After sitting for a while, the mixture will separate, so you'll need to stir it up. We have lots of kabob sticks that I use for that purpose.

Still having issues with the laptop or else I'd have pictures.

  2. I've washed my face with honey before. And I've washed with baking soda. But, after reading this post, I tried both today. Wow! I have the same problem with my skin being all flaky in parts and acne-ridden is other places. But this time I didn't even feel like I needed moisturizer! Probably should have used some anyway, but it's hot and I hate how it makes me feel sweaty.

  3. How interesting!!

So just honey and baking soda? I guess the liquid-ish type of honey?

  4. Yeah, just honey and baking soda. I don't think it matters what kind of honey. Sometimes it feels like I don't get it all off, but I think that's just me thinking, "Wait! Why isn't my face all peeling off like usual?" :)

  5. I've been washing my face with baking soda for awhile. I thought it wasn't working so I haven't done it in two weeks (yeah, like I'm going to bring a bag of white powder through security). There is much breaking out )o: I'm excited to try the honey, though! Do you mix as you go or mix a lot and just use a little at a time? Does it matter?

  6. So has it helped with your acne at all? Sounds interesting :)

  7. Chilly- I happened to have a small round container for mixing lotions in, so I just mixed the honey and baking soda together in that and keep that in the bathroom. I've only made up one mixture- probably about 3 tablespoons of scrub- and I'm still going through that.

Alice- I think it has helped my acne, but the real test will be this weekend when my period comes, of course. Always break out during that time, somehow! I'll let everyone know how it goes with that, but so far, I've noticed less acne.

  8. Wow! I am going to have to try that! Wouldn't the lavender E.O. possibly cause some skin irritation in those with sensitive skin? I should probably stay away from that.

  9. Hi there!
    This sounds interesting!
I've had very sensitive skin all my life and when I was a little girl, the dermatologist suggested I use dove soap. That's all I've ever used from then on. I also use Neutrogena oil free moisturizer.
Thanks for visiting my new blog, and for your sweet comments too. I wrote a comment to you the other day, but I guess I hit preview instead of post!!
Good luck with my giveaway... You baby girl is adorable!

  10. So, I've been trying breastmilk on my (horrible) acne, and it's doing nothing. Someone suggested honey, and I remembered I'd seen over here that you'd been using honey and baking soda. Are you still? Do you still recommend it? Are you still doing 1:1 honey & baking soda? Because I'm looking for something new to try! :) And I love honey! :)

  11. that scrub is so amazing, I use it once a week and use the oil cleansing method to wash my face other days it is seriously.amazing. for real. I've had trouble with acne like since forever NEVER had a clear face not once, even when I was pregnant with my son! So I've been doing this method for a week and it's already been working you should try it too! I'm getting my period soon so I'll see how that goes but so far only some clooged pores that are healed by the morning :)
